The real budo that most genuine martial artists seek. It’s not a quest for power but a quest for enlightenment. Mushin, the Zen concept of being in the moment.
Sensei simply means ‘one who has gone before’. The soldier at the front on the Kokoda track can warn those behind of the pitfalls in front of them if he chooses to. Being a Sensei is rather like being a parent. Sometimes you have to let the kids make their own mistakes. Other times you have to stop them from hurting themselves. Some parents see this as an opportunity to control, as this is easier than choosing when to take control or give control...
Unfortunately when we seek to make profit from martial arts we loose the true meaning of budo. However, to keep a roof over your head is not a sin either. To seek power for the sake of control helps no one whatsoever. I am just a work in progress encouraging those further back on the trail to keep going, that it’s worth it.
